Guwahati, 21 July (HS): The Assam Government has intensified rescue and relief operations in flood-affected districts following heavy monsoon rainfall across the state and neighbouring hill regions. BJP State Spokesperson Mita Nath Bora said the response, led by Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, has focused on swift coordination and public welfare.

She said the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), district administrations, SDRF, NDRF, Assam Police, Fire and Emergency Services and the Health Department are working round the clock. The Chief Minister has directed ministers and MLAs to remain in affected areas to supervise rescue and relief efforts, while BJP workers have also been urged to assist stranded people.

According to the government, 101 relief camps and relief distribution centres have been set up across flood-hit districts. Around 9,606 people are currently staying in these camps, while another 34,905 people are receiving relief assistance through distribution centres and outreach programmes. Medical teams have also been deployed to provide healthcare, medicines, safe drinking water and sanitation facilities.

The government expressed condolences over the loss of 10 lives in the floods and said the Indian Army and Indian Air Force have been kept on standby for rescue and evacuation if required. It reaffirmed its commitment to continue relief, rescue and rehabilitation efforts until normalcy is restored in all affected areas.-----------
