Kolkata, 21 July (H.S.): Senior rebel Trinamool Congress leader Anubrata Mondal on Tuesday asserted that the party could not be weakened through intimidation, accusing opponents of conspiring to engineer a split within the organisation.

Addressing the parallel July 21 Martyrs' Day programme at Mayo Road, Mondal said there was no reason to consider the Trinamool Congress weak, as it had always stood by the common people and would continue to do so.

Trinamool cannot be broken by fear. The party will grow stronger and continue to stand with everyone. It is a party that stands with ordinary people, the underprivileged, the poor, daily wage earners, farmers and unemployed youth. That is the identity of the Trinamool Congress, he said.

Appealing to party workers and supporters to remain united, Mondal added, The Trinamool you see today will become even bigger in the future. It is a party of the people and for the people. I urge everyone to stand by the Trinamool. The party has reached its present position because of the sacrifices made by the families of our martyrs.

Political observers noted that although attendance at the Mayo Road programme, organised by the Ritabrata Banerjee camp, was smaller than the gathering at the Mamata Banerjee-led event near Birla Planetarium, the presence of influential leaders such as Anubrata Mondal and their strong political remarks added to the day's political significance.
