Imphal, 02 July (HS): Security forces and Manipur Police carried out a series of successful operations, seizing around 2 kg of suspected Heroin and arresting two alleged drug traffickers, besides apprehending two extortionists linked to insurgent outfits over the last 24 hours.

On July 1, security forces intercepted a four-wheeler at Porompat in Imphal and arrested Bigyan Baniya (21) of Kangpokpi district and Manoj Chettry (27) of Kohima, Nagaland. During the search, 168 soap cases containing approximately 2 kg of suspected Heroin No. 4 were recovered and seized along with the vehicle.

In a separate operation on the same day, Manipur Police arrested an active cadre of the PLA involved in extortion and the transportation of arms and ammunition. The arrested militant was identified as Oinam Kalajit alias Yaikhomba Singh (55) of Ngairangbam Mayai Leikai. He was apprehended from the Toubungkhok area under Patsoi Police Station in Imphal West district.

Earlier, security forces arrested another extortionist, Sairem Bolex Singh alias Pamel (26), an active cadre of the NRFM, from Sagoltongba Makha Leikai under Patsoi Police Station in Imphal West district.

Police said further investigation is underway in all the cases.------------
