
Nagpur, 18 July
(HS): as many as six deer were killed on Saturday morning in Kanhan region in
Nagpur on a railway track. They were hit by a speeding train while crossing the
rail track. The incident which occurred between 4 am and 5 am, has raised questions
relating to mitigation measures to protect wildlife.
The Forest
Department officials rushed to the site and started further procedure.
The area is
adjacent to forest and carnivorous and herbivorous animals are seen frequently.
Deaths of one or two wild animals are reported frequently. Deaths of six deer
together was unusual.
Investigation into
the accident has been initiated. However, neither the Forest Department nor the
Railways issued any official statement about the incident.
