Prayagraj, 18 July (HS): In our homes, women often take

utmost care of the health of every family member. However, when it comes to

their own health, they often overlook even minor problems. This negligence can

lead to serious diseases like breast cancer. Breast cancer is one of the most

common cancers among women in India today. Fortunately, if detected early, it

can be successfully treated and patients can live a normal life.

Dr. Kanika Sharma, Consultant, Breast Surgical Oncology, Max Smart Super

Speciality Hospital, Saket, says, A painless lump in the breast, any

change in the nipple, any change in the breast skin or any persistent unusual

discomfort should never be ignored. In such a situation, one should get it

checked by a doctor without delay.

Breast cancer treatment has made significant progress today. In many cases,

removal of the entire breast is no longer necessary. Breast-conserving surgery,

targeted therapy, and other modern treatments are providing better outcomes

when the disease is detected early.

Dr. Sharma adds, The biggest challenge isn't treatment, but delays in

diagnosis. Many women delay seeing a doctor due to fear, embarrassment, or

misconceptions. But the sooner the disease is detected, the easier and more

successful the treatment will be.

Women aged 40 and older should have regular mammograms as recommended by their

doctor. Those with a family history of breast cancer should have their risk

assessed early. Furthermore, every woman should be aware of normal and abnormal

changes in her breasts.

Talking openly about breast cancer, getting screened promptly, and not ignoring

any symptoms are the most important steps. With early detection and modern

treatment, breast cancer can be effectively controlled. Therefore, prioritize

your health and seek immediate medical advice if you have any doubts.
