Hooghly, 18 July (H.S.): Construction of the long-awaited second entrance gate at Arambagh Prafulla Chandra Sen Government Medical College and Hospital formally commenced on Saturday, marking a significant step towards strengthening the institution's infrastructure and improving emergency healthcare services.

The project began with the demolition of a portion of the hospital's boundary wall opposite the BDO office. Arambagh MLA Hemanta Bag, Medical College Principal Dr. Ramaprasad Roy, and other senior hospital officials were present at the site during the commencement of the work.

The demand for a second entrance had been pending for a long time. Hospital authorities and local residents welcomed the start of the project, describing it as a major improvement for the region's healthcare infrastructure.

According to hospital officials, the new gate will provide direct access to the emergency department. At present, the hospital has only one main entrance, often causing delays in the movement of ambulances and critically ill patients. Once operational, the second gate will enable emergency vehicles to reach the casualty unit more quickly, ensuring faster medical intervention for patients in critical condition.

Officials said the project would significantly improve the hospital's operational efficiency and emergency response. The initiative is also expected to ease vehicular congestion within the hospital premises, making access more convenient for patients and their attendants.

The administration expressed hope that the long-pending project would enhance healthcare delivery for lakhs of people across the Arambagh subdivision and mark another important milestone in the expansion of the medical college's infrastructure.
