Jalpaiguri, 16 July (H.S.): A suspected murder-suicide has shocked West Bengal's Jalpaiguri district after the bodies of a woman and her husband were recovered from a forest on consecutive days. The police are investigating all possible angles.
The deceased woman has been identified as Chumki Roy (50), a resident of Purba Duramari Shalbari-I Gram Panchayat under Banarhat. According to the police, Chumki had an argument with her husband, Bimal Roy, on Wednesday morning before both left their home separately.
Family members alleged that shortly after leaving home, Bimal sent a voice message to his son, allegedly saying, I will kill your mother. A few hours later, Chumki's blood-soaked body was found inside the Moraghat forest. The police recovered a knife and a pair of shoes from the scene. Preliminary examination revealed sharp weapon injuries on her neck.
Following the incident, Bimal Roy went missing. On Thursday morning, the police recovered another body from the same forest, which is suspected to be that of Bimal Roy.
Investigators are examining whether Bimal killed his wife before taking his own life or whether there is another angle behind the incident. Both bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination, and further investigation is underway.
