Hooghly, 16 July (H.S.): A major political development unfolded in Rishra Municipality late Wednesday night as Chairman Vijay Sagar Mishra tendered his resignation via email to the Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO), Serampore.

According to sources, following Mishra's resignation, Vice Chairman Zahid Hasan Khan and six other councillors are also expected to submit their resignations on Friday. However, no official confirmation has been issued so far.

Earlier, Ward No. 15 councillor Bijeta Debatia had also resigned, triggering speculation over the political future of the municipality. The series of resignations has intensified discussions about changing political equations in Rishra.

Mishra's resignation has also sparked mixed reactions on social media. While some described it as a difficult phase in his political career, others defended his decision, calling it a consequence of the prevailing circumstances. Some observers have also termed the developments an outcome of political pressure.

If the expected resignations take place on Friday, the political landscape of Rishra Municipality could witness a significant reshuffle. All eyes are now on the developments expected over the next two days.
