Multiple Arrests, Arms and Drug Hauls in Major Security Operations Across Manipur

Imphal, 16 July (HS): Security forces and Manipur Police carried out a series of coordinated operations across the state over the last 24 hours, leading to the arrest of several suspects, including drug traffickers, an active militant, and individuals linked to illegal arms possession.

In Thoubal district, security forces arrested alleged drug dealer Syed Anish Shah alias Leirang (46) from his residence. During the raid, officials seized 144 SP capsules and ₹16.43 lakh in cash, suspected to be proceeds from drug trafficking.

In another operation, security forces recovered a cache of arms and ammunition from Ishok Mamang Leikai near Loktak Lake in Imphal West district. The recovered items included modified rifles, a 9 mm pistol, an M2 carbine with telescopic sight, and 26 rounds of live ammunition.

A separate search in the forest area near Mongbung village in Jiribam district resulted in the recovery of a large quantity of weapons and military equipment, including country-made firearms, hand grenades, mortar shells, over 330 rounds of ammunition, magazines, and combat gear.

Security forces also arrested an active cadre of the KCP-MC (Progressive), identified as Ngathem Bhimojit Singh alias Bhimo (38), during a search operation in Imphal East district.

Meanwhile, Manipur Police arrested two residents of Khurai Lairikyengbam Awang Leikai in Imphal East. A pistol, two magazines, and 11 live rounds were recovered from one of the accused during the operation.

In another anti-drug drive, police arrested Asem Somanda Singh (46) from Thoubal district and seized a large quantity of suspected contraband, including Samplex+, Spasz+ and Tussrex-TR.

Based on specific intelligence, security forces arrested four residents of Sikibung village in Ukhrul district and recovered two SBBL guns, live cartridges, and a wireless communication set.

Separately, Manipur Police arrested HA Sochipem (27) from Ukhrul town in connection with a case registered under the POCSO Act at the Women Police Station, Ukhrul.------------
