Howrah, 16 July (H.S.): A Class X student died after being stabbed by a youth in a busy public area of Andul in West Bengal's Howrah district on Wednesday evening. The police said the attack was prima facie linked to a strained relationship between the two.

The incident took place at Chandni Bagan in Khatir Bazar under the Domjur police station limits. According to eyewitnesses, an argument broke out between the minor girl and the accused, identified as 27-year-old Samir Das. During the altercation, he allegedly pulled out a knife and repeatedly stabbed her.

The injured girl was rushed to Howrah District Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries after battling for several hours.

Enraged by the attack, local residents overpowered the accused and assaulted him before handing him over to the police. He sustained injuries in the assault and was admitted to Domjur Rural Hospital for treatment.

Preliminary investigation suggests that the accused had been pressuring the minor over a romantic relationship, and the attack was triggered by tensions between them. Police are probing all aspects of the case.

The victim was a resident of South Mohiary Chandni Bagan in Andul, while the accused, a native of Mayureswar in Birbhum district, was employed at Jalan Complex in Howrah. Investigators believe the two became acquainted through his workplace.
