Kolkata, 16 July (H.S.): BJP MLA from Barrackpore Kaustav Bagchi has alleged that a pre-planned attempt was made to intimidate him and his family after motorcycle-borne miscreants allegedly threatened to bomb and shoot him outside his residence on Wednesday night. The police have detained six persons in connection with the incident.
According to Bagchi, the attackers repeatedly rode past his residence, shouted abusive slogans, and issued threats to kill him. He claimed the incident was a deliberate attempt to terrorise his family, as he was not at home at the time.
The MLA on Thursday linked the alleged intimidation to his demand for a thorough investigation into the murder of BJP leader Manish Shukla. He also accused former Barrackpore Municipality chairman Uttam Das and some BJP leaders of conspiring against him, alleging that certain Trinamool Congress leaders are trying to join the BJP and that he has opposed their induction.
Bagchi released CCTV footage purportedly showing three men on a motorcycle making repeated rounds near his residence. He claimed the men threatened to attack him with bombs and bullets and warned that his life could be in danger.
A complaint has been lodged at Titagarh Police Station, and police have detained six suspects. An investigation into the incident is underway.
