Kolkata, 15 July (H.S.): Political speculation intensified in West Bengal after senior Trinamool Congress MLA Madan Mitra visited the residence of Entally MLA Sandipan Saha on Tuesday night amid the Enforcement Directorate's (ED) summons to his wife and two sons in the alleged municipal recruitment scam.
During the visit, Mitra held a nearly two-hour meeting with Swarnakamal Saha, Sandipan Saha's father and a former Trinamool MLA from Entally, at the family's Taltala residence.
The meeting comes at a time when the ED has summoned Madan Mitra's wife and both sons for questioning in connection with the alleged municipal recruitment scam, triggering fresh political discussions over the significance of the visit.
According to sources, Madan Mitra did not meet Sandipan Saha in person, although the two leaders spoke over the phone. Sandipan Saha said Mitra, a veteran party organiser, had expressed his desire to meet him. He added that only after a face-to-face meeting would it become clear what Mitra wanted to discuss and whether it had any political significance.
Political circles are also abuzz with speculation that Mitra may be in touch with leaders of the faction being referred to as the Real Trinamool. However, neither Madan Mitra nor his associates have made any official statement regarding such speculation.
Sources said another telephonic conversation between the two leaders was likely on Wednesday, after which the political implications of the meeting could become clearer. For now, the development has added to the ongoing buzz over the changing political landscape in West Bengal.
