West Bengal, 15 July (H.S.): West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Wednesday assured the family of the 2013 Kamduni gang rape and murder victim that the state government would extend full legal support in their pursuit of justice before the Supreme Court.

After meeting the victim's family during his Janata Darbar at the BJP state office, Adhikari said the case is currently pending before the apex court and that the state's legal team has been directed to assist the family. He alleged that the previous Trinamool Congress government weakened the prosecution by repeatedly changing public prosecutors and failing to properly pursue the case.

The Kamduni case dates back to June 7, 2013, when a college student was gang-raped and murdered in North 24 Parganas, triggering widespread protests across West Bengal. While a trial court awarded death sentences to three convicts, subsequent High Court orders modified parts of the verdict. The matter is now pending before the Supreme Court.

The victim's family welcomed the Chief Minister's assurance, expressing hope that they would finally receive justice after more than a decade.

Adhikari also claimed that his Janata Darbar initiative has resolved nearly 80 per cent of the public grievances received so far, reiterating that his government is committed to prompt action rather than mere assurances. He further alleged that several cases under the previous regime, including incidents of post-poll violence, were not properly investigated and said appropriate legal action would be pursued.
