Guwahati, 15 July (HS): Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday asserted in the Assam Legislative Assembly that the government would work at storm speed over the next five years to accelerate the state's development and overcome all obstacles posed by the Opposition.

Launching a sharp attack on Opposition parties during his address, the Chief Minister said his government would not be deterred by challenges and was determined to fulfil its commitments. He remarked that Assam's march towards progress could not be halted.

Referring to urban planning, Sarma said Assam could implement planned township development similar to Odisha and Gujarat if adequate land was made available. He added that the government could develop infrastructure and eventually return the developed land to the people, but alleged that any attempt to acquire land currently triggers political controversy.

In a major policy announcement, the Chief Minister proposed imposing a tax on eggs imported from outside the state to encourage local poultry production and make Assam self-reliant in egg production.

Sarma also announced that several key welfare schemes, including Orunodoi and Nijut Moina, would be rolled out from August. Reaffirming the government's commitment to its promises, he said every assurance made to the people would be honoured.------------
