S. Janaki passed away at the age of 88 after a distinguished musical career spanning more than six decades. Revered as one of India's greatest playback singers, she recorded an estimated 48,000 songs in nearly 20 languages, including Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Hindi, Odiùa, Bengali, Punjabi, Tulu and Urdu. Her remarkable vocal range and expressive style earned her widespread acclaim across the country.
Throughout her illustrious career, S. Janaki received numerous honours, including four National Film Awards for Best Female Playback Singer and several state film awards. Her contributions to Indian cinema and music made her one of the most celebrated voices in the country's cultural history.
