Major Political Crisis in North Dum Dum Municipality as 20 Councillors Resign, Including Chairman and Vice Chairman

Kolkata, 08 June (H.S.) : A major political upheaval unfolded in the North Dum Dum Municipality on Monday after as many as 20 municipal representatives, including the Chairman and Vice Chairman, resigned en masse, triggering a serious administrative crisis.

The councillors submitted their resignation letters to the Executive Officer of the municipality during the afternoon, causing widespread shock and political uncertainty. The sudden mass resignation has raised concerns over the functioning of the civic body.

Chairman Bidhan Biswas stated that his decision to step down was purely personal, citing health-related issues as the primary reason. The Vice Chairman and other councillors also followed suit in submitting their resignations.

However, sources close to the councillors suggested that the resignations may not be solely personal in nature. According to these sources, mounting political pressure and the prevailing political situation in the region played a significant role in the collective decision.

The North Dum Dum Municipality comprises 34 wards, and the resignation of 20 councillors has effectively pushed the board into a minority, raising serious questions about its administrative stability.

Local residents have expressed concern that the political instability could severely impact civic services and development work in the area. There are fears that day-to-day governance may come to a standstill until the situation is resolved.

The mass resignation has plunged the municipality into uncertainty, with political observers closely watching the next course of action.
