NEW DELHI, June 6 (H.S.): Fifteen-year-old cricket sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi has created history by becoming the youngest player ever selected for the Indian national cricket team. With his inclusion in the squad for the upcoming tours of Ireland and England, as well as the 2026 Asian Games, he has surpassed a long-standing record held by legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar.
Tendulkar made his international debut for India against Pakistan in 1989 at the age of 16, and his record had remained unbroken for 36 years.
Hailing from Bihar, Suryavanshi captured the attention of the cricketing world with his outstanding performances in the 2026 edition of the Indian Premier League. He not only impressed spectators but dominated the tournament throughout the season.
Representing Rajasthan Royals, Suryavanshi enjoyed remarkable success in the post-season awards. He was honoured with several major accolades, including Most Valuable Player, Emerging Player of the Season, Best Striker, Highest Run-Scorer, and Most Sixes Award.
The young left-handed batter amassed 776 runs during the season while maintaining an extraordinary strike rate of 237.30. He smashed a record 72 sixes and eclipsed several long-standing IPL milestones.
With his fearless batting against some of the country's finest bowling attacks, Suryavanshi set new benchmarks in T20 cricket and further cemented his reputation as one of the most promising talents in Indian cricket.
India will play two T20 Internationals against Ireland in Belfast on June 26 and 28. The team will then travel to England for a five-match T20 International series scheduled from July 1 to 11.
Meanwhile, the men's cricket competition at the 2026 Asian Games will be held in the T20 format from September 24 to October 3. Teams from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Japan, Nepal, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Oman will compete for the gold medal.
The competition will begin with the preliminary stage from September 24 to 26, followed by the quarter-finals on September 28 and 29. The semi-finals will be played on October 1, while the bronze-medal match and gold-medal final are scheduled for October 3.
