Guwahati, 05 June (HS): Various programmes are being organised across Assam on the occasion of World Environment Day on Friday, with government departments, educational institutions and non-governmental organisations undertaking a range of activities to promote environmental conservation and awareness.
In a remarkable display of commitment towards nature, a group of young environmental enthusiasts has been nurturing saplings throughout the year instead of limiting their efforts to plantation drives. The youths have been taking care of trees planted at several locations near the Tingrai forest area in Digboi, setting an example of long-term environmental stewardship.
Meanwhile, students of James Academy at Hatidhura in Tamarhat observed the day through a unique awareness campaign aimed at encouraging people to protect the environment. Leaving their classrooms behind, the students took to National Highway-127(B) and distributed saplings to commuters and travellers from the early hours of the morning.
In the presence of officials from the Hatidhura Forest Department, the students distributed several thousand saplings to the public. The initiative began with a special morning assembly at the school, after which the students carried saplings in their hands and proceeded to the highway to spread the message of environmental conservation.
Travellers on the national highway appreciated the students' sense of responsibility and awareness towards environmental protection, describing the initiative as both inspiring and meaningful.
On World Environment Day, the youths involved in the Digboi green campaign also spent the morning caring for the saplings they have nurtured over the past months, reaffirming their commitment to preserving nature and creating a greener future.-----------
