Lucknow, 05 June (HS): On World Environment Day, Uttar
Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath started a large state-wide plantation
program with an objective of planting 5 crore (50 million) trees. On his
birthday, he launched the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' (Tree in the Name of Mother)
project, planting saplings at his official house in Lucknow.
Mega Plantation Drive: Under the larger 'Van Mahotsav' banner, the forest
department prepared over 50 crore saplings to guarantee public involvement
throughout the state. State Green Cover: The state intends to continue its
record of planting over 242 crore saplings over the previous nine years,
bringing it closer to being a greener, more ecologically resilient region.
Broader Green Policies: Adityanath underlined the importance of entirely
banning single-use plastics, focusing on water conservation, and encouraging free
soil distribution for village and city ponds.
He penned a post on X, which reads as follows: “On this
sacred occasion of World Environment Day today, the statewide tree plantation
campaign under the 'One Tree in the Name of Mother' mega-campaign will be
inaugurated. In Lucknow, the establishment of 'Maharishi Charak Medicinal
Forest', the launch of the Uttar Pradesh Clean Air Management Project, the
unveiling of the 'logo' of the Tree Plantation Mega-Campaign-2026, and the
notification of 100 wetlands in the state—through such programs, a renewed
momentum will be infused into the resolve for nature conservation and
environmental enhancement. Thereafter, on the sacred land of Mother Pateshwari
in Balrampur, the journey of public welfare and development will gain a new
direction through the inauguration and foundation stone laying of development
projects. Come, let us plant a sapling to fulfill our duty towards the
motherland, motherhood, and nature, and become partners in building a green,
clean, and prosperous Uttar Pradesh.”
Earlier he stated in a post on X, “Heartfelt wishes on World
Environment Day. The Earth is our mother, and its conservation is our
commitment. Let us, on this occasion of World Environment Day, pledge to
protect the environment and fulfill our responsibilities towards nature.”
