Bhubaneswar, 05 June (H.S.): Private bus operators in Odisha have decided to suspend their proposed statewide strike scheduled for June 10, following discussions with the Transport Commissioner. However, the association has warned of renewed agitation if their demands are not addressed by June 29.

The decision was taken after a meeting between representatives of the State Private Bus Owners’ Association and the Transport Commissioner on Friday. During the discussions, the association agreed to defer the strike and allow the state government time to examine its demands, particularly relating to a revision in bus fares and other operational concerns.

Speaking to the media, Association General Secretary Debendra Kumar Sahoo said the proposed strike on June 10 would not be carried out. However, he cautioned that if the government fails to take a favourable decision on their demands by June 29, private bus operators may resume their agitation and go ahead with a strike after June 30.

Sahoo further stated that the State Transport Authority (STA) will prepare a fare revision proposal based on 14 key parameters, which will then be submitted to the government for consideration. A final decision on fare revision will be taken after examining the proposal.

The development comes shortly after the Odisha government revised bus fares across different categories in response to an increase in diesel prices. The revised fares came into effect from June 2, 2026, following a notification issued by the STA.
