Kolkata, 05 June (H.S.) : Political activity in West Bengal intensified on Friday amid ongoing uncertainty over the allocation of ministerial portfolios, after senior political leader Suvendu Adhikari reportedly left for Delhi ahead of schedule.
According to sources, the development comes shortly after the recent cabinet expansion in the state, where 35 newly appointed ministers were sworn in at Raj Bhavan in the presence of the Governor. Following the oath-taking ceremony, the first meeting of the expanded cabinet was held under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister, during which it was indicated that portfolio allocations would be formally announced on Friday.
However, political circles were taken by surprise when, before the expected distribution of departments could take place, Adhikari reportedly departed for Delhi on a flight around 11 am.
No official statement has been issued by the administration or any political party regarding the purpose of the visit, further fueling speculation within political circles. Observers suggest that the trip may carry significance beyond routine or courtesy engagements, potentially indicating broader political developments.
The delay and uncertainty surrounding the allocation of portfolios had already triggered discussions within political corridors. Against this backdrop, the sudden Delhi visit has added a new layer of speculation to the evolving situation.
Sources further indicated that Adhikari is likely to return to Kolkata late Friday night. Meanwhile, attention now remains focused on whether the Delhi visit will lead to any significant political developments or shifts in the state’s administrative equations.
As of now, neither the state government nor the concerned political leadership has issued any official clarification regarding the matter.
