Bhubaneswar, 05 June (H.S.): The Odisha government is considering extending the ongoing summer vacation for schools if the prevailing heatwave conditions persist across the state, School and Mass Education (SME) Minister Nityananda Gond said on Friday.
Speaking to the media, the Minister stated that a decision regarding the extension of the vacation will be taken after reviewing the weather situation in the coming days.
“Whether the summer vacation will be extended or not will depend on the prevailing conditions at that time. The government will assess the ground situation before taking a final decision,” Gond said.
He emphasized that the safety and well-being of students remain the top priority of the School and Mass Education Department. “If the intense heat conditions continue, the vacation period may be extended to ensure the protection of schoolchildren,” he added.
The state government had advanced the summer vacation schedule and closed schools from April 27 due to severe heatwave conditions affecting several parts of Odisha. The vacation is currently scheduled to end on June 17.
