
Imphal, 05 June (HS): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has nominated Manipur BJP State President Sharda Devi as its official candidate for the upcoming Rajya Sabha election from the state. The announcement came after the election process for Manipur’s lone Rajya Sabha seat formally commenced.
Sharda Devi, who currently heads the Manipur BJP unit, will contest the election to the Upper House of Parliament as the party’s nominee. According to the election schedule, the last date for filing nominations is June 8, following which scrutiny of nomination papers will be conducted. Candidates will be allowed to withdraw their nominations until June 11.
Polling for the Rajya Sabha seat is scheduled to be held on June 18. The election assumes significance as political parties prepare to secure representation for Manipur in the Upper House.
Following her nomination, the Manipur BJP congratulated Sharda Devi and extended its best wishes. The party stated that her selection reflects recognition of her dedication to the organisation, commitment to public service, and leadership qualities in the state.
