Amritsar, 05 June (H.S.): The Amritsar Bar Association has taken
a strong stand against the inclusion of a lawyer’s name in an FIR registered at
Majitha police station. Expressing resentment over FIR No. 91, the legal
fraternity has announced a ‘No Work Day’ on Friday, June 5.
The Bar Association has objected to the naming of
Advocate Bikramjit Singh Bath in the case. Lawyers alleged that their fellow
advocate has been wrongly implicated, which has caused serious concern among
the entire legal community.
The decision was taken during a special meeting of the
executive body of the Bar Association, chaired by association president
Gurpreet Singh Panesar. During the meeting, members strongly objected to the
naming of the advocate without any solid basis.
The executive body unanimously passed a resolution
demanding a fair and independent inquiry into the case registered against
Advocate Bikramjit Singh Bath.
The Bar Association said that if Advocate Bath’s name
has been added to the FIR without sufficient evidence, the police
administration should remove it with immediate effect. The association stressed
that the independence, dignity and safety of lawyers are essential for
strengthening the judicial system.
It further said that dragging any lawyer into a criminal
case in an unfair manner would not be tolerated.
In support of their fellow advocate and to demand a fair investigation, the
Amritsar Bar Association has decided to completely suspend work today. The
association has also appealed to judicial officers and various courts to
cooperate with the ‘No Work Day’ decision, considering the sensitive issue
related to the safety and dignity of lawyers.
