New Delhi, June 4 (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s affinity for yoga is well known, and it remains an integral part of his daily routine. He believes that the regular practice of yoga helps individuals remain energetic and maintain overall well-being. On Thursday, he shared the Sanskrit verse, “Yogena Chittasya Padena Vacham Malam Sharirasya Cha Vaidyakena; Yo'pakarottam Pravaram Muninam Patanjalim Pranjaliranato'smi,” on his X handle and paid tribute to Maharishi Patanjali.

The Prime Minister wrote, “Regular practice of yoga keeps the body healthy and the mind calm. Making it a part of one’s daily routine helps create a balanced and energetic life.”

Notably, this traditional Sanskrit invocation is recited before the commencement of yoga practice as an expression of gratitude and to cultivate mental steadiness and focus.

The verse offers reverence to Maharishi Patanjali for alleviating three major afflictions of humanity—mental disturbances, impurities of speech, and physical ailments. It acknowledges his contributions through yoga, grammar, and medicine, which are regarded as pathways to purification and well-being.

It is worth noting that Prime Minister Modi views yoga not merely as a form of physical exercise but as a comprehensive science of life and holistic wellness. Acting on his proposal, the United Nations General Assembly declared June 21 as the International Day of Yoga in September 2014.
