NEW DELHI, June 4 (H.S.): Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, along with Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri, on Wednesday launched India’s first flex-fuel car in the national capital. The initiative has been undertaken by Maruti Suzuki.

Speaking on the occasion, Gadkari said that flex-fuel vehicles would help reduce emissions, lower the country’s dependence on crude oil imports, and potentially save nearly Rs 1.44 lakh crore in foreign exchange. He noted that the achievement is in line with the vision of Narendra Modi for clean, sustainable, and self-reliant mobility.

He further stated that the move would promote the use of biofuels, support farmers, strengthen rural energy security, and create employment opportunities. According to Gadkari, the transport sector accounts for nearly 40 per cent of pollution, and reducing this burden remains a key priority for the government. He observed that residents of cities such as Delhi are well aware of the adverse effects of air pollution, making it essential to take concrete and effective measures in this direction.

Gadkari said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and through the special initiatives of Hardeep Singh Puri along with the cooperation of companies such as Maruti Suzuki, India has achieved this significant milestone in the transition towards cleaner and more sustainable transportation.
