
NEW DELHI, June 4 (H.S.): The India Meteorological Department (India Meteorological Department) on Thursday forecasted that Delhi-NCR experienced moderate rainfall accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms, providing slight relief from the prevailing heat conditions.
According to the IMD, Kerala, after the onset of the southwest monsoon, is likely to receive heavy rainfall ranging between 7–20 cm over the next seven days in parts of Kerala and Karnataka.
The weather agency stated that on Friday, Delhi-NCR is likely to witness light rain with thunderstorms and strong winds. Wind speeds may range from 40–50 kmph and could occasionally reach up to 60 kmph. Maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to remain between 38–40°C and 25–27°C respectively. Similar conditions are likely to persist on June 6, while skies are expected to turn generally clear by June 7. On Sunday, temperatures in the capital are likely to range between 39–41°C (maximum) and 26–28°C (minimum).
The IMD added that following the monsoon onset in Kerala, several regions in Kerala and Karnataka may witness heavy rainfall over the next seven days. Tamil Nadu is also expected to experience isolated heavy rainfall, while heavy rains are likely to continue in parts of Northeast India over the next five to six days.
During the next two to three days, wind speeds of 50–60 kmph are expected across parts of northwest, central, eastern, and peninsular India. The IMD also noted the presence of cyclonic circulations over different parts of the country.
Heavy rainfall with thunderstorms is likely over several regions of Northeast India for the next six days, parts of peninsular India for four days, eastern India for four days, and select areas of northwest and central India during the same period. Strong winds accompanied by thunderstorms are also expected across isolated regions of Northeast, southern peninsular, and western India.
Heatwave conditions are likely in parts of Bihar between June 6–8, in eastern Uttar Pradesh from June 7–10, and in western Uttar Pradesh from June 8–10.
In the past 24 hours, extremely heavy rainfall of 12–20 cm was recorded at isolated locations in Arunachal Pradesh. Heavy rainfall of 7–11 cm was also reported in Assam, Meghalaya, the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, West Bengal, Sikkim, Odisha, western Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Rayalaseema, Kerala, and Mahe.
Hailstorms were observed at isolated places in western Madhya Pradesh and central Maharashtra. Strong winds reaching 60–80 kmph occurred in parts of western Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Telangana, while winds of 40–60 kmph were reported in parts of Konkan, Marathwada, Uttarakhand, Vidarbha, central Maharashtra, Gujarat region, Saurashtra, Kutch, Jharkhand, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Assam, Meghalaya, Odisha, eastern Madhya Pradesh, and coastal Andhra Pradesh.
