NEW DELHI, June 4 (H.S.): The Indian Army has sought an explanation from Captain Bharat Bhardwaj after a video surfaced showing him proposing to his girlfriend in front of a military helicopter following a passing-out parade in Nashik, Maharashtra.

The Army reportedly viewed the act as a violation of military protocol and regulations, particularly regarding the use of uniformed presence and military assets for personal displays.

Captain Bharat Bhardwaj completed his flight training at the Combat Army Aviation Training School in Nashik and officially graduated as an Army Aviation pilot during the passing-out parade. On June 2, during the ceremony, the young officer, dressed in uniform, reportedly knelt in front of a military helicopter and proposed to his fiancée Aarushi by placing an engagement ring on her finger.

The video of the emotional moment quickly went viral on social media, with many users praising the gesture as a blend of professional achievement and personal celebration. In the footage, Aarushi is seen accepting the proposal, while those present applaud the moment.

However, defence sources stated that the Army has objected to the use of military uniform and a service helicopter in such a manner, noting that public display of personal events within operational or ceremonial military settings is not appropriate.

Taking the matter seriously, the Army has asked the newly commissioned officer to submit his clarification. Senior officials reportedly believe that the act may have violated established guidelines regarding the use of military premises and the display of military equipment.

Officials emphasised that while there is no objection to the officer’s personal celebration, concerns have been raised about the choice of location and use of military assets for such purposes.

In a subsequent development, Captain Bhardwaj also posed for photographs with his fiancée aboard a military helicopter, prompting further caution within the Army regarding the use of official ceremonies or military equipment for social media content.

Officials reiterated that the uniform is a symbol of honour and dignity, and maintaining its sanctity is the responsibility of every officer and soldier.
