Chennai, 30 June (H.S.):Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay will undertake a two-day visit to Karur on July 10 and 11, during which he will meet the families of the 41 people who lost their lives in the September 27 stampede at a TRK public meeting. The visit will be his first to the district since the tragedy, which remains one of the deadliest political rally disasters in recent years.

The stampede, which shocked the nation, is currently being investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) under the supervision of the Supreme Court. The incident had sparked widespread concern over crowd management and safety measures at large public gatherings.

Following the tragedy, Vijay was unable to visit Karur due to security restrictions and police advisories. Instead, he interacted with the bereaved families through a video conference, expressing his condolences and assuring them of the government's support.

He later invited the families to Mamallapuram, where he met them personally and handed over financial assistance of ₹20 lakh to each affected family. The amount was transferred directly to their bank accounts. During the meeting, the Chief Minister also assured them that further assistance would be considered after assessing their long-term needs.

According to official and party sources, Vijay will once again meet the families during his upcoming visit to offer his condolences and review the support being extended to them. The visit is expected to reaffirm the government's commitment to standing by those affected by the tragedy.

Apart from interacting with the victims' families, the Chief Minister will inaugurate a series of welfare schemes and development projects in Karur and participate in official government programmes.

The Karur visit is also expected to mark the beginning of Vijay's district outreach programme across Tamil Nadu. In the coming months, he is likely to tour other districts to review government schemes, inaugurate development projects, interact with the public and thank people for their support in the Assembly elections.
