Kochi, 30 June (H.S.):An Ernakulam Judicial First Class Magistrate Court has directed the police to register a case against actor Tiny Tom based on a complaint filed by actress Ansiba Hassan, who has alleged that he made communal and derogatory remarks against her.

The court issued the directive after Ansiba approached it, alleging that the police had failed to act on her complaint despite conducting a preliminary inquiry. The magistrate also instructed the police to investigate all allegations raised in the complaint, including those relating to insulting the modesty of a woman.

Earlier, the Kadavanthra police had carried out a preliminary inquiry and submitted a report stating that there was insufficient evidence to register a criminal case. According to the police, the complaint was largely based on hearsay and lacked material evidence to support criminal proceedings. On that basis, they had declined to register an FIR.

Dissatisfied with the police action, Ansiba moved the court seeking judicial intervention. In her complaint, she alleged that Tiny Tom had referred to her as a 'jihadi' and made remarks that were communal in nature and defamatory. She further claimed that his statements were intended to insult her dignity as a woman.

Ansiba also alleged that Tiny Tom had publicly suggested that she had encouraged religious conversions, a claim she said she came to know about through others. She argued that such statements had damaged her reputation and sought a detailed police investigation into the matter.

As part of the preliminary inquiry, the police had questioned Tiny Tom regarding the allegations. The actor denied all accusations, maintaining that the complaint was baseless and deliberately fabricated. He asserted that he had not made the statements attributed to him.

With the magistrate now directing the registration of a case, the police are expected to initiate formal criminal proceedings and conduct a comprehensive investigation into the allegations before filing their report before the court.
