Mumbai, 03 June (HS): Several leaders of the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad
Pawar) including MP Supriya Sule, legislators Rohit Pawar, Shashikant Shinde,
Jayant Patil, Jitendra Awhad were detained by the police on Wednesday during
their agitation against inflation and alleged anti-people policies of the Union
Government. Party leaders Sakshana Salgar and Rohini Khadse were also taken
into custody by the police as the agitation flared up.
The NCP
(SP) workers raised slogans against the Centre and the State Government. Some
workers staged sitting agitation on the road to cook on traditional earthen
stove protesting rising prices of cooking gas (LPG). The price rise has
affected common people pushing them into great difficulties.
Rohit
Pawar said that they are fighting for the cause of common people. Supriya Sole
demanded discussion on the weakening economic condition of the nation. The
issue is not related to any political party, but of the masses.
Shashikant
Shinde alleged horse trading during the coming Legislative Council elections. The
agitation for common people is being supressed using the police force, he
added. The agitation for the issues of common people and farmers will be
intensified, he said.
