
Goghat, 03 June (H.S.): Ten people were injured, four of them seriously, in a road accident while travelling to attend funeral rites in Hooghly district's Goghat area on Wednesday. The incident took place near Hajipur Kathgola under Goghat Police Station, triggering panic and concern among local residents.
According to local sources, a group of people was travelling in a locally operated vehicle, commonly known as a Bhutbhuti, to participate in the last rites of a deceased person. While passing through the Hajipur Kathgola area, the vehicle collided head-on with a pickup van.
The impact of the collision left all ten passengers of the Bhutbhuti injured. Upon receiving information about the accident, police from Goghat Police Station rushed to the spot. With the assistance of local residents, the injured were rescued and taken to Kamarpukur Rural Hospital for treatment.
After initial medical examination, four of the injured were referred to Arambagh Medical College and Hospital as their condition was reported to be serious.
All the injured are residents of the Hajipur area. They are currently undergoing treatment, and doctors are closely monitoring their condition.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident and are trying to determine the exact cause of the accident.
The mishap has cast a shadow of grief over the locality, as the victims were on their way to perform funeral rites when the accident occurred. Local residents have expressed concern over road safety and called for measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
