Kolkata, 03 June (H.S.) : The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned Trinamool Congress National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee in connection with its investigation into the alleged irregularities in West Bengal's primary teacher recruitment process.

According to sources, two ED officials visited Banerjee’s residence in Kolkata’s Kalighat area on Wednesday to serve him a notice requiring his appearance before the agency. However, the TMC leader was not present at his residence at the time, and the notice could not be handed over to him personally.

Sources in the investigating agency said Banerjee has been asked to appear before the ED on June 15 for questioning in connection with the ongoing probe into the primary recruitment case.

Reports indicate that when the ED team arrived at his residence, Banerjee was not at home. He was reportedly present at the Trinamool Congress office adjacent to the residence of party chief Mamata Banerjee in Kalighat. As a result, the officials were unable to serve the summons directly to him.

The alleged primary teacher recruitment scam has remained under the scrutiny of multiple central investigative agencies, and several individuals have already been questioned as part of the probe. The summons issued to Banerjee is expected to add a new dimension to the politically sensitive investigation.

The ED has not yet issued a detailed official statement regarding the summons. Similarly, neither Banerjee nor the Trinamool Congress had issued an immediate response to the development at the time of filing this report.

Agency sources said Banerjee may be questioned on various aspects related to the recruitment process and the alleged irregularities under investigation.
