Bongaigaon (Assam), 29 June (HS): Two railway track maintenance workers lost their lives and two others suffered critical injuries after a speeding train struck them while they were on duty on the Naranarayan Setu rail-cum-road bridge near Jogighopa in Assam's Bongaigaon district on Monday.

The mishap occurred on the 2.3-km-long Naranarayan Setu over the Brahmaputra River, an important rail and road link connecting Jogighopa with Pancharatna. The workers were reportedly carrying out maintenance work on the tracks when the train hit them.

While two workers killed on the spot, the injured personnel were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment. Railway police and Northeast Frontier Railway officials reached the site soon after the incident and launched a preliminary investigation into the cause of the accident.

The identities of the deceased and injured workers, details of the train involved and any official announcement regarding compensation are yet to be released. Authorities are also assessing whether the incident has affected train operations on the Jogighopa section.-----------
