Hyderabad, June 29 (HS): Telangana Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy on Monday said the Musi Rejuvenation Project, a flagship initiative of the state government, would lay a strong foundation for Telangana's future development and transform Hyderabad into a world-class city.

Chairing a review meeting at the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Secretariat with senior officials on land acquisition, rehabilitation and other issues related to the project, the Minister said the rejuvenation of the Musi River would improve environmental conservation, enhance the quality of life and create new opportunities for tourism, employment and economic growth.

He said the project was not merely a development programme but an initiative aimed at providing future generations with a healthy, safe and eco-friendly environment.

Referring to the long-standing pollution of the Musi River and recurring hardships faced by residents in flood-prone areas during the monsoon, Ponguleti said the project had been designed to address these challenges through flood control, water purification, increased green cover and the development of roads, parks, walkways and recreational facilities along the riverfront.

The Minister reiterated that the government was implementing the project without causing injustice to anyone and that every decision would be taken from a humanitarian perspective.

He directed officials to adopt a people-centric approach during the land acquisition process and instructed them to prepare and implement an action plan for allotting double-bedroom houses to families displaced by the project.

Ponguleti also assured that the government would provide legal compensation and necessary rehabilitation to all affected landowners and families.
