
Imphal, 29 June (HS): Manipur Police and security forces have intensified their statewide enforcement operations, leading to major seizures of narcotics, arrests of insurgent cadres and extortionists and action against traffic violators over the last 24 hours.
In a significant anti-drug operation, police seized 540 grams of suspected heroin (brown sugar) from a passenger bus (MN01-2217) under Khongjom Police Station in Thoubal district. The bus driver, identified as Md. Warish (33) of Nungei Khongban, is absconding and efforts are underway to apprehend him.
In another development, police formally arrested Haobijam Dilip Singh alias Taibangnganba (52), chairman of KCP (Taibangnganba), in connection with a case registered at Singjamei Police Station. He was taken into custody after being brought from Tihar Jail, where he had been lodged earlier.
Meanwhile, security forces arrested an alleged self-styled Captain of the RPF/PLA, Thokchom Bango Singh alias Ibopishak alias Utomba (44), from the Khongjom area of Thoubal district. A 9 mm pistol with a magazine, 97 live rounds of ammunition and an unregistered Toyota Fortuner were recovered from his possession.
Continuing the crackdown on extortion networks, two active cadres of KCP (PSC-Politburo Standing Committee) were arrested from separate locations on June 27. The arrested persons have been identified as Koijam Lamyanba Meitei alias Punshiba alias Ningol (23) and Lourembam Rojit alias Lamnganba alias Pukhri (19), both residents of Thoubal district.
The police also continued strict enforcement against traffic violations. Between June 22 and June 28, authorities issued 64 challans, collecting fines amounting to ₹1.37 lakh. Additionally, tinted films were removed from eight vehicles during a week-long special drive.------------
