New Delhi, 26 June (H.S.): Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday paid tribute to Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) on the occasion of Muharram, remembering his timeless sacrifice and unwavering commitment to truth and justice.

In a post on social media platform X, Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan recalled the sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) and said that Muharram reminds people of the enduring values of courage, sacrifice, compassion and steadfast devotion to truth and justice. He added that the sacred occasion inspires society to strengthen the bonds of brotherhood, peace and mutual respect.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also paid tribute to Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS), recalling his eternal sacrifice and unwavering commitment to truth and justice. The Prime Minister said that Imam Hussain’s life and martyrdom remain a timeless example of courage and the power of unwavering conviction.

Prime Minister Modi further said that the sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) continues to inspire countless people to remain steadfast on the path of truth and justice. He added that Imam Hussain’s legacy serves as a lasting reminder of the enduring strength of courage and firm faith.

Notably, Muharram is the first month of the Islamic calendar, and the tenth day of the month is observed as Ashura. The day commemorates the martyrdom of Imam Hussain ibn Ali and his companions in the Battle of Karbala in Iraq in 61 AH (680 CE). For the Shia Muslim community, Ashura is a solemn day of mourning, while many Sunni Muslims observe fasting on the occasion.
