New Delhi, 26 June (H.S.): India has extended humanitarian assistance to Venezuela following the devastating earthquakes that recently struck the country's capital, Caracas. Two Indian Air Force aircraft carrying essential relief supplies and medical equipment departed for Venezuela on Friday under Operation Amistad.

External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar shared the information on social media platform X, saying that India is dispatching a substantial consignment of medical and disaster relief equipment as part of the humanitarian assistance mission. He said the relief package includes a field hospital unit, more than 35 tonnes of humanitarian aid and two BHISHM Cubes, which are designed to provide immediate medical assistance and support relief operations in disaster-affected areas.

Dr. Jaishankar said India stands firmly with the Government and the people of Venezuela during this difficult time. He added that India remains committed to providing every possible assistance and will continue to extend support as required.

Notably, Caracas and its surrounding regions were recently struck by two powerful earthquakes measuring 7.5 and 7.2 in magnitude, causing widespread devastation. According to preliminary reports, the disaster has resulted in extensive loss of life and property, with more than 200 people reported dead so far. A large number of buildings have been damaged, while rescue and relief operations are continuing on a war footing.
