The maximum and minimum temperatures in the national capital are expected to remain between 39-41 degrees Celsius and 25-27 degrees Celsius, respectively. Similar weather conditions are forecast for June 27 and 28.
It is noteworthy that partly cloudy skies, gusty winds, thunderstorms, and light rainfall had also been forecast for the capital on Thursday. However, residents continued to experience warm and humid conditions during the day.
The IMD stated that conditions are favourable for the further advance of the southwest monsoon into parts of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand over the next three to four days.
As forecast earlier by meteorological authorities, heavy rainfall is continuing across the northeastern states. In addition to the Northeast, heavy rainfall ranging between 7 cm and 20 cm is also likely over the western coast, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and several other regions during the week.
Meanwhile, heatwave conditions are expected to prevail in eastern Uttar Pradesh over the next three to four days, while Bihar and Jharkhand are likely to experience heatwave conditions over the next two days.
In Northwest India, widespread to heavy rainfall is likely over the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir and the regions of Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad from June 25 to June 30 and on July 1. Himachal Pradesh is expected to receive widespread rainfall between June 30 and July 1, while Uttarakhand is likely to experience heavy rainfall from June 29 to July 1.
The IMD has also warned of widespread rainfall over eastern Uttar Pradesh from June 30 to July 1.
During this period, parts of Central India, Eastern India, Northeast India, Western India, and South Peninsular India are expected to receive heavy rainfall at some locations and light to moderate rainfall at others over the next five days. These regions may also experience strong winds over the next six days, with wind speeds ranging from 40 kmph to as high as 70-80 kmph.
Heatwave conditions are highly likely at isolated places in Bihar on June 25, in Jharkhand during June 25-26, and in eastern Uttar Pradesh between June 25 and June 28. Severe heatwave conditions may also occur at some locations between June 25 and June 27.
The weather department further stated that maximum temperatures across Northwest India are likely to rise by 2-3 degrees Celsius until June 28, followed by a decline of 3-5 degrees Celsius thereafter. In Central India, maximum temperatures are expected to increase by 2-4 degrees Celsius until June 28, with no significant change anticipated afterward.
Across the rest of the country, no major change in maximum temperatures is expected until July 1, according to the IMD.
