Comedy has always occupied a special place in Bollywood, creating characters and moments that remain etched in the minds of audiences long after the credits roll. When it comes to the immensely popular 'Welcome' franchise, expectations naturally reach another level. Now, with 'Welcome to the Jungle', audiences can look forward to yet another entertainer packed with laughter, chaos and an ensemble of some of Bollywood's most loved stars.

The film brings together an impressive cast, including Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, Disha Patani, Arshad Warsi and several other actors. In an exclusive conversation with Hindusthan Samachar, the stars shared their experiences of working on the film, reflected on the evolution of the industry and spoke candidly about the challenges and joys of comedy.

Excerpts:

Akshay Kumar

Question: From action and romance to drama and socially driven films, you have successfully explored every genre. Yet, your comedy films continue to enjoy a unique connection with audiences. How do you view this enduring popularity?

Answer: It is extremely gratifying. Throughout my career, I have been fortunate enough to work across a variety of genres, but comedy has a charm that is truly unmatched. When a character succeeds in making people laugh, that character finds a permanent place in their hearts. Perhaps that is why many of the characters I have portrayed in comedy films continue to be remembered even today. For an actor, there can be no greater reward than knowing that years later, people still smile when they think of your work. Making audiences laugh is the greatest victory any artist can achieve.

Question: What was it like being part of a massive multi-starrer comedy such as 'Welcome to the Jungle'?

Answer: It was an absolutely fantastic experience. Working with so many talented actors brings a completely different energy to the set. Every day offered something fresh and unexpected. There were many occasions when spontaneous reactions from the actors turned out to be funnier than what was originally written in the script. That unpredictability is one of the most beautiful aspects of comedy. I genuinely believe audiences will feel the same excitement and entertainment that we experienced while making the film.

Suniel Shetty

Question: Having witnessed Bollywood evolve over several decades, what do you think is the biggest difference between the film industry of the 1990s and today's industry?

Answer: Change is inevitable and every era has its own identity. However, I do feel there was a stronger sense of togetherness in the industry during the 1990s. Whenever a film premiered, almost the entire film fraternity would come together to celebrate. Artists genuinely rejoiced in each other's achievements. Today, social media and the digital ecosystem have transformed the way the industry functions. At times, online presence becomes a bigger talking point than the films themselves. While that is the reality of the modern age, I still believe that the warmth, camaraderie and family-like atmosphere that once defined the industry should continue to be nurtured.

Question: Is there something the younger generation of actors can learn from that era?

Answer: Certainly. Talent and hard work are indispensable in every generation, but relationships are equally important. Respecting colleagues and standing by one another strengthens not only individuals but the entire industry. I hope this sense of unity continues to grow among the younger generation.

Disha Patani

Question: 'Welcome to the Jungle' is being seen as one of your first major ventures into full-fledged comedy. How challenging was that experience?

Answer: It was a completely new and incredibly exciting experience for me. Comedy often appears effortless on screen, but in reality, it is one of the most demanding genres. Delivering lines is only one aspect of it. Facial expressions, body language, timing and reactions all play a crucial role. Initially, I was slightly nervous because I was sharing screen space with so many experienced performers, but everyone made me feel comfortable from the very beginning.

Question: Who helped you the most during the shoot?

Answer: Director Ahmed Sir deserves a lot of credit. He gives actors the freedom to experiment and discover their own rhythm. The entire cast was also extremely supportive. Over the course of filming, we became like one big family. Working alongside Arshad Warsi Sir and the rest of the team was a valuable learning experience. There were countless moments on set when something unexpectedly funny would happen and controlling our laughter became almost impossible.

Question: What can audiences expect from your character in the film?

Answer: I can only say that audiences will see me in a completely different avatar. The character is unlike anything I have played before, which made the experience even more exciting for me. I hope viewers enjoy it. The film has humour, entertainment and plenty of surprises in store.

Question: Who was the biggest prankster on the set?

Akshay Kumar (laughing): Anna — that's Suniel Shetty — may appear calm and composed, but he is not as innocent as people think. He is constantly plotting some prank or joke. If you leave your slippers unattended, there is a good chance you may never find them again. Very often, the entire prank is his idea, while the rest of us are recruited to carry it out. He is definitely one of the biggest mischief-makers on the set.

With its star-studded cast, larger-than-life humour and trademark chaos, 'Welcome to the Jungle' promises to take the beloved franchise forward while delivering the laughter and entertainment that fans have come to expect from the series.
