New Delhi, 24 June (H.S.): Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs and Power, Manohar Lal, on Wednesday inaugurated the commencement of work on the Delhi Metro’s Central Vista Corridor at the Central Secretariat Metro Station. The event was attended by K. Srinivas, Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and Chairman of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), along with other senior officials.

Manohar Lal said that a significant step has been taken towards strengthening Delhi’s urban transport infrastructure. He noted that the corridor will provide seamless connectivity to key national institutions and landmarks, including Kartavya Bhavan, India Gate, the National War Memorial, and the Supreme Court, making access easier for thousands of employees, citizens, and daily commuters.

He added that enhanced integration with major Metro lines will make travel across the national capital more convenient and efficient. Inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of modern and citizen-centric infrastructure, this landmark project will help save valuable travel time and improve passenger convenience.

In a statement, DMRC said that the station is being developed under Phase V(A) as an extension of the existing Magenta Line from Janakpuri West to RK Ashram Marg. Upon completion, Central Secretariat will become a triple-interchange station, where the new Magenta Line station will seamlessly connect with the existing Yellow Line and Violet Line stations.

This special facility is expected to significantly benefit government employees and commuters travelling to and from the Lutyens’ Delhi zone and surrounding administrative areas.

The corridor spans 9.913 kilometres and comprises nine underground stations: Shivaji Stadium, Yuge-Yugeen Bharat, Central Secretariat, Kartavya Bhavan, India Gate, War Memorial–High Court, Baroda House, Bharat Mandapam, and Indraprastha.

The project marks a major step towards strengthening connectivity across key areas of New Delhi. It will provide easier access to important government offices, judicial institutions, national memorials, and convention facilities, while also enhancing the overall capacity of the Metro network and improving passenger convenience.
