Guwahati, 23 June (HS): A businessman, Gautam Barua, was arrested by police for allegedly organising a birthday celebration for his wife on the Kumar Bhaskar Varma Bridge over Brahmaputra River, an act that drew widespread attention after videos of the event went viral on social media.

According tothe traffic police DCP Jayanta Sarathi Bora, the businessman had arranged a birthday party on the bridge with his wife, Karabi Barua and a group of friends, causing concern over public safety and traffic regulations. Following an investigation into the incident, police took action against those involved.

Apart from Gautam Barua, police also detained 14 other individuals, including his wife Karabi Barua, in connection with the case. Authorities further seized four vehicles allegedly used during the celebration.

DCP said that the incident came to light after videos of the birthday party circulated widely on social media platforms, prompting criticism and demands for action.

Confirming the development, DCP (Traffic) Jayanta Sarathi Bora stated that legal action had been initiated against the individuals involved for violating traffic and public safety norms.-----------
