
Bhubaneswar, 19 June (H.S.): The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Warning for nine districts of Odisha, forecasting heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning on Saturday.
According to the latest weather bulletin, adverse weather conditions are expected to affect several parts of the state, with the possibility of intense rain spells, lightning strikes and thunderstorm activity. The IMD has advised residents to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions during the period of inclement weather.
The districts placed under the Orange Warning are Balasore, Bhadrak, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri and Gajapati.
The weather agency has cautioned that heavy rainfall may lead to localized waterlogging, reduced visibility and temporary disruptions to normal life in vulnerable areas. People have been advised to stay indoors during thunderstorms, avoid taking shelter under trees and follow safety advisories issued by local authorities.
Meanwhile, the Regional Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, has issued a three-day thunderstorm and rainfall alert for all districts of Odisha. Meteorologists attribute the prevailing weather conditions to intense daytime heat and humidity, which are triggering the formation of rain-bearing clouds during the evening hours across various parts of the state.
District administrations and disaster management authorities have been asked to remain prepared to respond to any weather-related emergencies. The situation is being closely monitored, and further updates will be issued based on the evolving weather pattern.
