Guwahati, 19 June (HS): Assam BJP has said that the Assam Government has undertaken extensive arrangements to ensure a safe, clean and well-organised Ambubachi Mela at the revered Kamakhya Temple, aiming to provide a comfortable experience for the lakhs of devotees expected to attend the annual spiritual congregation.

Ambubachi Mela, one of India’s most significant religious festivals, is associated with the worship of divine feminine power and symbolises fertility, creation and the cyclical renewal of life. Held at the world-renowned Kamakhya Temple, the festival attracts saints, spiritual seekers, researchers, tourists and devotees from across India and abroad, reinforcing Assam’s prominence on the global spiritual map.

Under the leadership of Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, various government departments have coordinated efforts to strengthen infrastructure and public services for the festival. Authorities estimate that nearly 800,000 devotees may visit the shrine during the event.

To accommodate the large influx of pilgrims, the government has arranged drinking water facilities, temporary toilets and bathing units, rest camps, medical centres, ambulance services, information kiosks and assistance centres. Security measures have also been intensified with the deployment of Assam Police, traffic personnel, home guards and emergency response teams.

Special transport services, traffic management plans and directional guidance systems have been introduced to facilitate smooth movement of devotees to and from Kamakhya Dham. The government has also set up dedicated camps at Kamakhya Railway Station, Pandu Ferry Ghat and Naharani Bari to assist pilgrims arriving from different locations.

Officials stated that efforts are also being made to improve accessibility for elderly and specially-abled visitors through wheelchair facilities and enhanced transport connectivity. Carpeted pathways from the foothills leading up to the temple have been laid to ensure greater convenience for devotees.

The government described Ambubachi Mela as a matter of pride for Assam and Indian civilisation, adding that the festival offers an opportunity to showcase the state’s rich spiritual heritage, hospitality and cultural traditions to visitors from around the world.------------
