Nagaon (Assam), 16 June (HS): A youth undergoing treatment at a de-addiction centre in Assam's Nagaon district killed under mysterious circumstances, triggering allegations of physical abuse and negligence by his family.

The deceased has been identified as Bhaskar Deka, a resident of Dimou. He had been admitted to the Divine Awakening Wellness Society de-addiction centre at Bebejia on June 11 for treatment and rehabilitation.

Following his death, the victim's wife, Barsha Devi, lodged a formal complaint at the Bebejia Police Outpost against the management of the centre, demanding a thorough investigation into the incident.

Family members alleged that they found multiple injury marks on Bhaskar Deka's body and claimed that he had been assaulted with iron implements during his stay at the facility. They further alleged that the youth killed as a result of physical torture carried out in the name of treatment and recovery.

Police have registered the complaint and initiated an investigation to ascertain the exact circumstances surrounding the death. The incident has raised serious questions over the functioning and monitoring of de-addiction centres in the region.----------
