Nagpur, 16 June
(HS): A twenty-four-year-old lady married to an Indian Air Force officer has
accused her former classmate in Nagpur of forced conversion, sexual abuse, and
extortion. Police launched an inquiry after a viral video of the lady pleading
during a conversion ceremony surfaced. The complainant claimed that a former
classmate approached her under the guise of a property sale, following which
she was drugged, sexually abused, and recorded without her permission.
The accused
reportedly used the video to blackmail her, extort nearly Rs 3 lakh, and force
her to perform conversion ceremonies at a remote place. Nagpur police have
detained two people in connection with the case, while a third person (imam),
who is accused of facilitating the conversion, is still at large. The Vishwa
Hindu Parishad has urged a comprehensive probe into the incident. The story
went viral on major social platforms such as Instagram and Facebook, triggering
widespread requests for strong, punitive steps against the perpetrators of
forced conversion schemes.
