Backward Classes Welfare and Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar formally launched the programme at Lok Bhavan School in Hyderabad as schools reopened after the summer vacation.
Officials said the scheme, with an outlay of ₹720 crore, is designed to ensure that students receive a nutritious meal before the start of classes, helping improve concentration and overall health.
In Hyderabad, 12,437 students studying in 45 government schools will benefit from the programme in the first phase.
Under the scheme, students will be served milk on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, while ragi malt will be provided on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. The breakfast menu includes dosa, poori, millet idli, pongal and bonda.
The government plans to implement the programme in government schools across the state in a phased manner.
