Thrissur, 15 June (H.S.):DYFI State Secretary V.K. Sanoj MLA on Monday launched a sharp attack on the UDF government led by Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan, alleging that several recent appointments and administrative decisions reflected a growing nexus between the ruling front and the RSS.
Addressing reporters, Sanoj claimed that the government was filling key positions with individuals close to its leadership while attempting to divert public attention through what he described as “carefully scripted” media interactions by the Chief Minister. He alleged that the appointment of B. Ashok as Higher Education Secretary was part of a larger understanding between the UDF and the RSS, and demanded that the government explain the nature of this alleged relationship to the public.
Sanoj also questioned the participation of Kerala university Vice-Chancellors in a programme attended by RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, arguing that the issue could not be brushed aside merely through apologies from those involved. He further alleged that lawyers appearing for accused persons in gold smuggling cases were now being appointed as government counsel, raising concerns about conflicts of interest.
The DYFI leader said developments in recent weeks pointed to what he termed a series of “hidden understandings” between the UDF and the RSS, and urged the government to clarify its position.
Sanoj also criticised the appointment of Nahas Pathanamthitta, a Youth Congress leader, to the personal staff of Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala. Referring to a narcotics-related case involving Nahas’s brother, he alleged that a proper investigation could potentially implicate Nahas as well.
He questioned the decision to appoint him to the Home Minister’s office at a time when the government is conducting “Operation Toofan,” a major anti-drug campaign. According to Sanoj, such an appointment could undermine public confidence in the investigation and potentially influence the handling of the case.
The DYFI leader said the organisation would strongly oppose the appointment and also accused the government of misleading commuters by converting ordinary KSRTC buses, eligible for free travel benefits, into city fast services, thereby limiting access to the scheme for many passengers.
