Court reschedules Vijay-Sangeetha divorce hearing for August 7
Vijay -Sangeetha

Chennai , 15 June (H.S.):

The Chengalpattu Family Court on Monday adjourned the divorce case involving Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president C. Joseph Vijay and his wife Sangeetha to August 7 after neither of them appeared before the court.

When the matter came up for hearing, both Vijay and Sangeetha remained absent and were represented by their respective counsels. In view of their non-appearance, the court deferred the proceedings and posted the matter for further hearing on August 7.

The case has witnessed multiple adjournments in recent months, with both parties consistently opting to be represented through their lawyers rather than appearing in person. Sources familiar with the proceedings said requests had earlier been made seeking permission for the couple to participate through video conferencing, citing security concerns and logistical difficulties associated with Vijay’s position as Chief Minister.

The family court had previously adjourned the case to June 15 after considering submissions made by both sides. However, with neither party present on Monday, the proceedings could not move forward, resulting in another postponement.

Sangeetha filed the divorce petition before the Chengalpattu Family Court in December 2025, seeking dissolution of her marriage with Vijay on the grounds of irreconcilable differences. In her plea, she also sought alimony and requested permission to continue residing at the couple’s Neelankarai residence in Chennai.

The case has attracted widespread public attention because of Vijay’s position as Chief Minister and leader of the ruling TVK. Developments in the proceedings have been closely followed by political observers and the media alike.

With the latest adjournment, the court is expected to review the status of the case and consider the next course of action when the matter comes up for hearing on August 7.
