
Dehradun, 15 June (HS): Police have arrested another accused in connection with the murder of a BJP leader in Dehradun's Sahaspur area, taking the total number of arrests in the case to five.
According to police, the incident occurred on June 13 in Bairagiwala village following a dispute over irrigation of agricultural land. Three persons, including BJP leader Vinod Kumar, were allegedly assaulted during the altercation.
The injured were admitted to hospital, where Vinod Kumar succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
Based on a complaint lodged by the deceased's brother, a case was registered at Sahaspur police station and teams were formed to trace the accused.
Police said Imtiyaz, a resident of Lakhanwala in Sahaspur, who had been absconding, was arrested on Monday. Efforts are continuing to apprehend the remaining accused.
Meanwhile, Dehradun Police dismissed reports circulating on social media regarding suspension of internet services in Sahaspur and Vikasnagar areas, describing them as misleading and baseless.
Senior Superintendent of Police Pramendra Singh Dobal said internet services were functioning normally and urged people to rely only on official sources for verified information.
Police warned that legal action would be taken against those found spreading rumours or misleading information on social media.
